Ideal Recruit are looking for a Senior Transport Planner to join our client’s company in Skelmersdale. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager and working within the Team, this is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the most reputable companies in the industry.
The Role:
Responsible for assisting the Senior Operations Manager and overseeing the daily planning operations to provide a timely and cost-effective service for a large fleet of vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
Route Planning

Develop comprehensive daily transportation plans for our HGV Class 1 drivers, optimizing routes for efficiency and timely deliveries
Capacity Utilisation

Strategically allocate resources to maximise the capacity of our fleet while maintaining cost-effectiveness
Responsible for ensuring records are managed relating to vehicles and drivers i.e., relating to vehicle roadworthiness, drivers’ hours and Working Time Directive (WTD)
Commercial

Holding an in-depth understanding of all commercial elements of each customer contract
Collaboration

Work closely with drivers, warehouse staff, and other stakeholders to coordinate and communicate transportation plans effectively
Problem Solving

Identify potential logistical challenges and proactively develop solutions to ensure on-time deliveries and optimal utilisation of resources
Data Analysis

Utilise data analytics and transportation management systems to analyse performance metrics and identify areas for improvement
Compliance

Ensure all transportation plans adhere to legal regulations and company policies, maintaining a high standard of safety and compliance
Compliance with GVOL (goods vehicle operator’s licence) requirements and transport regulations, with emphasis towards ‘best practice’
Team Management

Provide leadership and direction to a diverse team, ensuring effective communication, coordination, and performance management within the transport department.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications:

Previous experience in transport planning in a logistics or supply chain environment
Experience in leading and motivating a team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment, including people management responsibilities
Experience of delivering mpg improvements
Strong proficiency in transportation management systems (TMS) and other relevant planning software ( Mandata)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with drivers, warehouse teams, and other stakeholders
Demonstrated ability to analyse complex logistical challenges and implement effective solutions
Proven ability to manage time efficiently, ensuring the creation and execution of daily plans within tight deadlines
Experience in leading and motivating a team, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment
Successful candidate(s) will be required to undergo a basic Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) Check.
