Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a qualified multi-skilled Engineer with practical experience of maintenance and fault diagnostics in mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics, electronics and PLCs.

- Inspection and repair of machines, fixtures and fittings.

- Planned and preventative maintenance.

- Replenishment and maintenance of machine spares.

- Liaising with machine manufacturers and spares suppliers.

- Assist with machinery moves; work with the production team to assist with the installation of new machinery.

- Breakdown repair of existing plant and machinery; general repairs of plant and machinery.

- Respond to breakdowns in a timely manner as per the priority set by production.

- Identify repeat problems and assist in the corrective actions to remove the cause.

- Be responsible for meeting individual KPI’s.

- Ensure 100 % compliance of working on a task only once a risk assessment is in place.

- Advise on maintenance spares holdings.

- Fully participate in production support activities.

- Electronic record keeping of machine repair details and stock.

- Work with production staff to provide breakdown support in line with production priorities.

- Ensure that a risk assessment is carried out prior to start of work, and to reassess if there are any changes during the work task.

- Contributing to the continuous improvement of our manufacturing operation which includes 10 extruders, 6 Heatshrink Expanders and an Injection moulder.

- Ensure good communication is maintained with production staff for updates on machine breakdowns, machine release from production for maintenance. Communicate between outgoing and incoming maintenance shifts.

- Act as a mentor when working with apprentices or new starters.

- Any other ad hoc duties as requested by the Works Manager.

The successful candidate will also be required to work alongside the Manufacturing Manager to manage the company Health and Safety Policy and with the company sub-contractors on various projects. Must be computer literate and keep accurate maintenance records.

H&S Responsibilities

- Carry out risk assessments of all work tasks and contractor inductions.

- Be aware of hazards around the site and be proactive in identifying them and supporting removal of hazards identified by others.

- Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable practices and waste reduction initiatives

- Manage the documentation with regards to the safe systems of work and work equipment to comply with the Health and Safety requirements.

- Ensure compliance with all the Health and Safety and due diligence measures in their area of responsibility by carrying out regular inspections and risk assessments.

- Ensure staff receives necessary training and that records are maintained.

- Promote a culture of safety by investigating adverse events and ensuring safe working practices are adhered to.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have the following experience/skills:

- A qualified multi-skilled engineer with practical experience of maintenance and fault diagnostics in mechanical, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrics, electronics and PLCs.

- Experience in managing Health and Safety policies and working with sub-contractors on various projects.

- Must be computer literate and keep accurate maintenance records.

- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks in order of importance.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills.

- Team player.

- Recent experience of working as a maintenance engineer within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

- Completed Risk Assessment Training and/or IOSH/NEBOSH qualification.
