Job Description
Able to prepare Cost estimates for a diverse set of products and diverse offerings. Estimate total costs of printing and/or binding magazines, pamphlets, periodicals, books, and other variable printed matter based on job specifications that are primarily unique/moderately complex and occasionally may be routine/repeat opportunities. Prepare competitive pricing estimates for Sales to close new/existing business opportunities and retain existing customer base. Work with Customers, Sales, and Legal on the preparation of Contracts for work. Apply knowledge of print manufacturing to make determinations on the best manufacturing methods to produce customer products efficiently while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting revenue forecasts for work.
Responsibilities:
Prepare comprehensive pricing models for large/more complex requests.
Examine customer specifications, sketches, and/or sample layouts, and calculates unit and production costs considering factors such as size and number of sheets or pages, paper stock requirements, binding operations, halftones, number and units of colors, and quality of finished product, labor and material pricing, so as to determine a cost-effective and competitive price.
Prepares timely, accurate, and detailed cost estimates for printing jobs by determining the most economical method of manufacturing while considering production capacity and equipment across platforms.
Routinely provide multiple pricing options and scenarios to Sales by comparing different methods of manufacturing, materials, materials sizes, etc to deliver pricing options to Sales.
Work with Sales and operations to develop a competitive price strategy to win prospective and ongoing deals from customers.
Confer with Sales and Operations on long-term work/ multi-year deals to build pricing models/forecasts.
Work with operations on new or unique opportunities to ensure projects can be produced in-house.
Provide recommendations from a pricing perspective to how a product can be created or manufactured.
Performs financial analyses, including forecasts, projections, and historical assessments on multi-year deals.
Facilitates the management approvals required for price levels and contract terms
Facilitates communication among management, sales, and plant staff regarding contract and price
May be responsible for compiling and preparing customer contracts working with legal and updating and appending price schedules and contract terms.
In consultation with sales, may leverage the use of incentives to close competitive deals.
Maintain knowledge of market competitive pricing and factor in the market when developing pricing strategy and recommendations.
Functions as plant and management resource on general pricing and contract issues.
Determine the need to engage outside vendors to produce work and work with external vendors to negotiate pricing and/or timelines.
Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
