The USALCO LLC. Baltimore Facility has now incorporated a Research and Development Center. As a result, technicians are vital for the upkeep of instruments, gathering and analyzing data, and fulfilling customer needs with timely turnarounds for sample requests. The successful candidate must have a high attention to detail, can work well within a team environment, operates independently, and can perform to extremely high standards.
Job Summary:
The person for this role has the following expectations:
Perform routine preventive maintenance of the instruments critical for job functions.
Perform validation of instruments.
Complete all sample preparations as required by various sources, such as EPA 1633 method for PFAS detection.
Generate reproducible data that can be then forwarded to customers or R&D associates.
Be the expert with new method development for high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) along with HPLC/MS, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy (ICP-OES), and Total Organic Carbon (TOC analysis).
Procure consumables and appropriate columns for the continuation of work.
Keep lab areas clean of debris and clutter.
Use the proper protection equipment (PPE) for the job at hand at all times in which work in the laboratory environment is occurring.
Keep up to date with current literature that pertains to the work at hand.
The job is to be the primary technician for the following four instruments: TOC analyzer, ICP-OES, HPLC/RFID, and HPLC/MS. The technician will prepare all samples, run samples on these instruments, and disseminate results to the appropriate parties (i.e. Sales, R&D,). The technician will perform the routine maintenance and upkeep of the instrumentation. Finally, the technician will complete the work in a safe and clean manner.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Oversee the chain of custody for samples that enter USALCOs possession.
Prepare samples for analysis using well defined methods that are published within the literature.
Reproducibly complete sample analysis.
Complete validation experiments for all instruments.
Obtain and maintain EPA certification for PFAS determination.
Perform preventative maintenance on machinery.
Order columns, consumables, and all other items necessary for completion of work.
Disseminate results to the appropriate parties.
Perform work in a safe and clean manner.
Use the proper PPE in all working conditions.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of business goals and objectives.
Work with EH&S to ensure compliance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
BS degree or higher in Chemistry or Biology.
Experience and Knowledge:
6 months or more experience using HPLC.
0 2 years using ICP
0 2 years using TOC analyzer.
0 2 years performing SPE
At least 2 years experience in a laboratory environment.
Ability to use Mass Hunter and similar software.
Ability to convert data into excel.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft office.
Essential Functions:
The ability to:
Have strong attention to detail.
Stand for most of the working shift.
Routinely lift 50 lbs.
Must have transportation to and from the work site.
