The Client

Our Client supplies bespoke joinery to the commercial, leisure, healthcare, education and fit-out sectors. They design, manufacture and instal internal bespoke joinery and acoustic panelling as well as a range of fire-rated and specialists doorsets.

The Role

On receipt of enquiries, the estimator will produce and price a schedule / bill of quantities gaining input from Management Team for primarily Door Sets, general joinery and ancillary construction items inputting material and labour rates to prepare a quotation, qualifying or offering to ensure we are clear on what we have and have not allowed for.

Objectives of the Role

Preparation

* Review all tender documentation, drawings, architects details, specifications bill item requirements and related documents

* Collaborate with Estimating Team on how/who (suppliers) to approach.

* Find out through research if project is actually live, location, whether it is a good fit for the business. All the time trying to determine how long is spent on pricing the scheme.

* A job identified as a top job should be given a very dedicated approach as opposed to a tender opportunity which should be priced as quickly as possible

* Prepare pricing document to send out enquiries where appropriate to suppliers and subcontractors

* Assess the level of risk on the project on high risk schemes discuss with Senior Managers or arrange meeting to discuss / spread the risk

* Continue to develop the pricing schedule, set up estimating folder, fill out the estimating spreadsheet with all relevant information for estimating team.

Pricing

* Send out quotes from suppliers / subcontractors and input into the pricing document, alongside using pricing matrix and Doorset Quick to Quote Doorset Pricing software. As quotes are returned price the project using product knowledge, pricing information off orders from recent projects and utilising the pricing matrix. Carry out take off's where necessary.

* Where the drawings and specification are not clear raising any queries to the QS /architect (Main Contractor) via email or through an RFI

* Fill out pricing template, looking for VE options where appropriate to gain a competitive advantage over other subcontractors pricing the work.

* Make qualifications within the quote where appropriate to identify deviations from specification are identified or lack of , prepare cost budgets

* Once the pricing exercise is completed discuss with Estimating Team (particularly on jobs that are identified as 'top jobs') margins to be applied, prelim level. Particularly attention is to be paid to current workloads and risk to the Company.

* Submit price to client attaching most relevant promotional literature available adding video links etc. where appropriate.

* Price latest revision of drawings as new information is made available by the client.

* Attend tender review meetings with main contractor as / if required

Handover - (Post Estimating Stage)

* Review the order once it arrives to ensure we have accounted for everything. Particularly checking pricing document and drawing issues in the order match our latest Estimating Client Copy. Any discrepancies are to be identified and passed on to Estimating / Commercial Team.

* Handover document is to be filled out with budget information, supplier information, profit levels and estimating notes.

* Arrange Handover meeting with Project Delivery Team.

* Send out enquiries for further supplier quotes if necessary. Particularly where there are potential issues with budget and project has been awarded

* Advise on any tender queries from project team as required.

Other Activities

* Assist with various admin roles where necessary as need arises and workload allows this to happen
