What You’ll Be Doing:
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Senior Patent Agent to join our Innovation team. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in the growth and development of our patent portfolio and the successful execution of our intellectual property (IP) strategy. Working closely with our in-house IP Counsel, you will contribute to the identification, evaluation, and protection of our valuable inventions and ensure that we stay at the forefront of technological advancements in our industry.
Draft and prosecute high-quality patent applications in collaboration with inventors, in-house counsel, and outside counsel.
Conduct prior art searches and patentability analysis.
Collaborate with engineers and scientists to systematically gather technical information and identify innovative ideas or discoveries that could be eligible for patent protection.
Liaise with local counsel outside the United States about patent prosecution matters, such as Office Action responses, PCT national-phase applications and PPH filings.
Assist with IP-related due diligence and freedom-to-operate assessments.
Monitor and analyze patent landscape to identify potential risks and opportunities.
Support the development and delivery of internal trainings on IP topics.
Demonstrate a deep understanding of advanced concepts, particularly in the fields of mechanical and chemical engineering, including concepts in the areas of catalysis, ammonia cracking, purification, fuel cells, and combustion.
Requirements
The minimum requirements we seek:
B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) and in good standing
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in patent prosecution and IP strategy, including 3+ years of examining experience at the USPTO or patent prosecution experience at a large law firm
In-depth knowledge of patent laws, regulations, and procedures
Exceptional attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Experience
Proficient in providing guidance on patent prosecution matters to startup companies
Demonstrated industry experience as a chemical engineer or mechanical engineer
Prior experience or familiarity with patent litigation and post-grant proceedings
Experience using IP management software
The salary pay range for this position is $107,000 to $130,000. The salary pay range is applicable to positions physically based in Houston, TX. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, job experience and physical location.
