Responsibilities:
* Supports the Nurse Manager in the operation of nursing services within the unit, as well as the overall Nursing Department as needed, meeting targets/deliverables for the clinical area/unit assigned.
* Provides clinical supervision and support for the unit nursing team during each span of duty. Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of patient care and being a resource person for unit staff.
* Supports Nursing Administration in the overall Strategic Plan through transformational leadership and collaboration.
* Collaborate with the Nurse Manager in supporting Nursing Administration in all strategic and operational planning, as well as strategic and annual operational execution.
* Use expert nursing, clinical knowledge, and skills to ensure the delivery of quality nursing care to patients and families across the continuum of care.
* Demonstrate effective transformational leadership which fosters a positive, safe working environment, including a Culture of Safety and a Culture of Civility.
* Participate in the development and adherence to scope of service and policies as related to assigned area/unit.
* Actively participate in committees and/or teams as delegated by the Nurse Manager, positively representing the unit, organization and the profession of nursing.
* Support and participate in the standardization of initiatives, performance improvement projects and nursing practice.
* Foster teamwork to achieve nursing practice and operational excellence in the delivery of high quality, safe and efficient patient care, supporting patient-centered care, nurse satisfaction and staff retention.
* Ensure cost effective and efficient use of human and material resources, including equipment, supplies and consumables.
* Assist the Nurse Manager as required regarding unit promotion and recruitment interviews.
* Assist the Nurse Manager to ensure all nurses maintain competencies.
* Support the development of staff at all levels to maintain a high-performing workforce and adequate succession planning.
* Promote confidence and transparency through effective and professional communication.
* Support, develop and ensure compliance of evidence-based policies, procedures and guidelines in fulfilment with regulatory requirements.
* Lead and model patient experience initiatives across the continuum of care while working inter-professionally within the facility.
* Conduct unit Staff Nurse performance evaluations as delegated by the Nurse Manager.
* Provide direct patient care and other nursing duties as necessary.
* Provide comprehensive unit handovers to the next in-charge nurse at shift change.
* Manage and reports incidents to the Nurse Manager, investigate as required.
* Maintain safe custody and administration of medications, according to the organization policies and procedures.
* Be responsible for providing required cover for the unit Nurse Manager in his/her absence.
Requirements:
* Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Higher Education Diploma in Nursing from the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or Malaysia (minimum 3 years duration).
* Progressive nursing experience, exclusive of fulltime study period, with unit in-charge experience.
* The ability to motivate, set standards and demonstrate accountability of self and others in the team.
* Demonstrates knowledge of clinical integration of evidence-based practice and standard of care (Clinical Decision Making).
* Demonstrates high-level analytical and problem-solving skills (Critical Thinking)
