Job Title:         Nurture Teacher (Maternity Cover)

Location:         Oak Tree School, Truro

Salary:             £30,000 per annum

Hours:             42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am - 4.30pm

Contract:         Fixed Term, Term Time only

About the role

To secure high quality teaching, effective use of resources and improve standards of learning and achievement for all pupils in consultation with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team.

To teach a range of subjects as necessary to ensure the effective delivery of the school’s curriculum.

In consultation with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team undertake other identified areas of responsibility as necessary to ensure effective delivery of the school’s curriculum. 

To play a lead role in the development of the nurture group in accordance with nurture group principles to ensure that barriers to learning are reduced and to support students achieve their full potential.

To take a supporting role in monitoring to ensure that the school’s systems for promoting positive behaviour and attitudes to learning are effective.

To plan and deliver engaging and motivating experiences relevant to the nurture group principles (pupil’s learning is understood developmentally; the classroom offers a safe base; nurture is important for the development of self-esteem; language is understood as a vital means of communication; all behaviour is communication; transitions are significant in the lives of pupils). 

To develop an appropriate, broad, balanced, relevant, differentiated and challenging curriculum to all pupils appropriate to their needs. 

To provide support for a named group of pupils through a carefully structured timetable that balances learning, affection and structure within a caring home-like atmosphere.

Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of pupils from 5 – 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 pupils and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These pupils and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with pupils accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs.

This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas.
